![]() ![]() If you get a hundred people together for 4 1/2 years, there are going to be fights, but Lord, not nearly as bad as they were played up. ''That was overplayed, and I was there,'' he said. Once David and Maddie entered, we stayed with them for the rest of the episode, so the burden on those actors was extraordinary.''Ĭaron, who declined comment on his alleged removal at the hands of Shepherd, shrugged off reports of ego-centered infighting on the show. `Moonlighting,` like a Hitchcock film, was done in first person. Most hour-long shows are about eight people, or about a good guy and a villain, and you can always cut to that villain, who`s a guest star. It was virtually the only hour-long show on the air that was about two people. ''It was, by design, a very difficult show to do. I just think they`d had enough for the moment, and now it was time to take a walk around the block, and that`s what they did.''Ĭaron said erratic production was a built-in problem, given the premise of the show. ''I think America kind of sat down and ate this meal, heartily, and at a certain point said, `That was good,` and pushed themselves back from the table and said, `What do they have at the salad bar down the street?` I don`t think there`s anything wrong with that. Producer Caron thinks the show simply ran its course. ![]() Once you do that, where are you going to go with it?'' You can`t play around with some things, and I think pregnancy is one of them. ![]() ''It was just a travesty, the way they handled that,'' said Ann Hodges, critic for the Houston Chronicle. ''They may have been true to their own artistic goals,'' Shales says, It all became forced and belabored after that. It was also consummated in a way that people didn`t find particularly satisfying. The sexual tension just sort of evaporated. ''I think it was a fatal mistake to consummate the relationship,'' said Tom Shales, television critic for the Washington Post. In the battle that follows, names are called, blows are struck, furniture is toppled and the long -simmering love affair is consummated. She comes home late from work one night and goes to bed, thinking the form next to her is that of her paramour, only to find that David has invaded her bedroom. In that episode, Maddie has, to David`s jealous disgust, moved in with an old boyfriend. The big event, the affair-at-long-last, had become the door to boredom. When ABC moved the show to its Sunday-night time slot, ratings plunged, giving ''Moonlighting'' a pauperish 10 percent of the audience. ![]()
